On June 7, the Youth Talent Cultivation Work Conference of the Agricultural and Forestry Economic Management Discipline Evaluation Group under the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, along with the Transition Conference of the Youth Work Committee of the Chinese Agricultural Economics Society (hereinafter referred to as the "Youth Committee"), was held at Henan University of Economics and Law. The event was organized by the Agricultural and Forestry Economic Management Discipline Evaluation Group of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council and the Youth Committee of the Chinese Agricultural Economics Society, and hosted by the School of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development at Renmin University of China and the School of Agricultural and Rural Development at Henan University of Economics and Law.The opening ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, including Zhu Xinkai, Executive Vice President of Renmin University of China and convener of the Agricultural Economics Discipline Evaluation Group of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council; Zhu Jing, Zhongshan Distinguished Professor at Nanjing Agricultural University and convener of the Agricultural and Forestry Economic Management Discipline Evaluation Group of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council; Wen Tao, President of Chongqing Technology and Business University; Si Linsheng, Party Secretary and President of Henan University of Economics and Law; Qing Ping, Standing Committee Member of the Party Committee and Vice President of Huazhong Agricultural University; Zhu Zifeng, Party Leadership Group Member and Vice Director of the Henan Provincial Department of Education; and Qiu Huanguang, Standing Committee Member of the Party Committee and Vice President of Liaoning University. The opening ceremony was presided over by Zhao Nan, Vice President of Henan University of Economics and Law.

 

More than 120 experts and scholars participated in the conference, including members of the Agricultural Economics Discipline Evaluation Group of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, past annual scholars of the China Young Agricultural Economists Forum, and members of the Youth Committee of the Chinese Agricultural Economics Society.

Zhu Xinkai encouraged young scholars to dare to break through existing frameworks and research conventions, focusing on constructing China's independent knowledge system to develop distinctive concepts and original theories. He emphasized that Sannongology represents the most uniquely Chinese knowledge system, serving as a bridge connecting history and reality, as well as a systematic and theorized practice of China's "agriculture, rural areas, and farmers".Contemporary young scholars should strive to grow into thinkers and become the backbone in constructing China's independent knowledge system.

Zhu Zifeng, on behalf of the Henan Provincial Department of Education, expressed gratitude to the participating experts and scholars for their support and welcomed national experts and young talents to provide suggestions for Henan's agricultural modernization.

Si Linsheng expressed gratitude to the attending experts. He introduced the basic situation of Henan University of Economics and Law and the discipline of agricultural and forestry economic management, as well as the measures and achievements of the university in deepening the comprehensive reform of the discipline governance system.

The conference invited three experts to deliver keynote speeches. Luo Biliang, Senior Professor of Liberal Arts at South China Agricultural University and Director of the National Institute of Agricultural Institutions and Development, presented a report titled "The Relationship Between Theory and Empirical Research."

Qian Wenrong, Qiushi Distinguished Professor at Zhejiang University, Director of the China Academy for Rural Development, and Vice Dean of the School of Public Administration, delivered a report titled "Deepening the Fertile Ground of Agricultural Economics and Expanding Academic Frontiers."

Zhang Yang, Vice President of Henan University of Economics and Law, delivered a report titled "Deepening the Comprehensive Reform of Disciplinary Governance System and Forging a Young Talent Team for Agricultural Economics."

Annual Work Conference of the Agricultural Economics Discipline Evaluation Group under the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council

The Agricultural Economics Discipline Evaluation Group of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council convened its annual work conference and conducted thematic discussions on the cultivation of young talents in agricultural economics as well as the development of teaching syllabi for core graduate courses.

 

China Young Agricultural Economists Forum

The Youth Work Committee of the Chinese Association of Agricultural Economics organized the China Young Agricultural Economists Forum during this conference. Qiu Huanguang, Chairman of the Youth Work Committee, announced the Forum's Annual Scholars. Professor Ye Ziwei from Renmin University of China and Researcher Wang Xiaoxi from Zhejiang University were selected as the 2025 Annual Scholars of the China Young Agricultural Economists Forum. Qiu Huanguang and Zhang Yang presented commemorative plaques to the honorees and took group photos with them.

Ye Ziwei and Wang Xiaoxi presented their cutting-edge research findings and in-depth insights on "Economic and Policy Issues of Biotechnology Crops" and "Multiple Impacts and Policy Optimization in China's Agri-Food System Transformation" respectively. The lively on-site discussion demonstrated the unique perspectives and innovative vitality of young scholars.

The conference elected the principal leadership and standing committee members for the second Youth (Work) Committee of the Chinese Association of Agricultural Economics. Qiu Huanguang was elected as the chairman.

The China Young Agricultural Economists Forum was initiated in 2017 by the Youth Work Committee of the Chinese Association of Agricultural Economics. Since its inception, it has successfully held 12 sessions and has selected 45 annual scholars. The forum is rooted in the fields of agricultural economics and rural development, facilitating in-depth dialogues among top young scholars from China and abroad to effectively promote exchanges and collisions in cutting-edge research of agricultural economics. It has become a high-end academic brand that fosters the growth of young talents in agricultural economics.
