Professor Cheng Guoqiang’s NSFC Key Project Rated "Excellent"


The National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) Management Science Department recently concluded its review of key projects. The project "Research on Government-Market Relations and Coordination in Rural Revitalization" (No. 71933004), led by Professor Cheng Guoqiang of Renmin University's School of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development, was unanimously rated "Excellent" upon completion.

The expert panel reviewed and concluded that the project team focused on the significant strategic need of effectively defining and coordinating the relationship between government and market in rural revitalization. They conducted systematic and innovative research, publishing over a hundred academic papers in both Chinese and English, and releasing two monographs. The policy recommendations they proposed received positive endorsements from national leaders, and their achievements were awarded the First Prize of the 9th Higher Education Scientific Research Outstanding Achievement Awards (Humanities and Social Sciences). The team also cultivated numerous national-level talents and engaged in extensive international exchanges and cooperation.

Cheng Guoqiang is currently the Wu Yuzhang Chair Professor at Renmin University of China, Director of the Academic Committee of the School of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development, President of the National Food Security Strategy Research Institute, and a doctoral supervisor. He is also a recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars (NSFC), a leading talent in philosophy and social sciences under the "Ten Thousand Talents Program," a national cultural celebrity and one of the "Four Batches" talents (in the theoretical field), and an expert with special government allowances from the State Council. With over four decades of dedication to agricultural economics, he has developed an academic research system centered on "agricultural support and protection systems,"  "food security strategies," and "international agricultural trade and governance." He has directly participated in major national decisions such as China's WTO accession negotiations and the drafting of the Central Document No.1. Cheng has published more than 250 papers in important journals both domestically and internationally, including those in the Economic Research Journal, Management World, and Chinese Rural Economy, and has authored eight academic monographs. He has submitted over 140 policy research reports and received over 90 endorsements from State Council leaders. He has led several major projects, including the National Social Science Fund Major Project and the National Natural Science Foundation Key Project. His research achievements have been recognized with numerous awards, including the Second Prize of the National Prize for Progress in Science and Technology, the First Prize of Outstanding Achievements Award in Scientific Research of Institutions of Higher Learning (Humanities and Social Sciences) Nationwide, and the Second Prize of the Provincial and Ministerial Science and Technology Progress Award.
