On May 18, 2024, the Second Forum of Organic Farming in Renmin University of China, themed "Organic Industry Boosting Rural Revitalization," was successfully held at our institute. The forum was hosted by the School of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development at Renmin University of China, and co-organized by the International Organic Club, Beijing Wuzhou Hengtong Certification Company, and several other organizations. Over 80 experts, scholars, and enterprise representatives from the organic industry across more than 20 provinces and cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Shandong, Sichuan, and Heilongjiang, participated in the forum. The forum was moderated by Professor Sheng Jiping from the School of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development at Renmin University of China, with support from Pan Haijun, Secretary-General of the Beijing Organic Agriculture Alliance.
The forum focused on discussing how organic agriculture can solidify progress in new quality productivity development, rural revitalization, high-quality development, the integration of production and sales in the organic industry chain, and the organic integration of production, learning, and research.
First, Zeng Bingjian, Party Secretary of the School of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development at Renmin University of China, delivered a welcome speech. Secretary Zeng expressed his honor in participating in the second organic forum hosted by the school. He emphasized the practical significance of understanding the development and challenges of grassroots organic enterprises through in-depth field research. Additionally, he shared interesting anecdotes from his research visits and highlighted that this year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the department and the 20th anniversary of the school. He hopes for deep cooperation between organic enterprises from across the country and the school, leveraging alumni advantages to promote the sustainable development of the organic industry.
Bo Yumin, former Deputy Director of the Certification and Accreditation Administration of the State Administration for Market Regulation, spoke about the development trajectory of the organic industry. She affirmed the rapid development of China's organic industry in recent years and underscored the importance of building an international organic certification system and platform to foster mutual recognition of organic products globally and to drive the development of the global organic industry.
Li Guoqiu, one of the initiators of the International Organic Club and Chairman of Wuzhou Hengtong, delivered a report titled "How Organic Certification Serves Organic Agriculture in the Era of Rural Revitalization." He emphasized the importance and necessity of organic certification in serving organic agriculture.
Following this, Liu Guangwei, Director of the Food Studies Research Center at Renmin University of China, introduced the basic connotation, definition, tasks, system, principles, and values of the independent knowledge system of food studies. He provided a comprehensive overview of the development of the food studies system both domestically and internationally and its significance for sustainable human development.
Additionally, Professor Xu Changqing from the Institute of Botany at the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Professor Bai Jingyun, an agricultural advisor to the Beijing Municipal Government, Qi Lingfeng, Director of the Organic Office in Xichong, Sichuan, Chairman of Beijing Jinhui Farm, and Zhang Chao, Director of the China Association of Elderly Care, each delivered speeches. They shared insights on the current state of organic Chinese herbal medicine, the challenges faced by organic food, innovative business models of organic farms, and the development of new quality productivity.
