The fragrance of Wuyi tea permeates the campus and the elegance of intangible cultural heritage permeates the heart. —— Renmin University of China successfully held the intangible cultural heritage tea culture exchange activity "Wuyi Tea China Tour"


To deeply study and implement the important speech spirit of President Xi Jinping during his inspection in Fujian and his research visit to Renmin University of China, and to fulfill the cooperation agreement between Renmin University of China and Fujian Province, as well as Nanping City, to achieve mutual benefits and win-win outcomes, the "Wuyi Tea China Tour" intangible cultural heritage tea culture exchange event was successfully held at Renmin University of China on the morning of March 23,2025. This event is an important part of the second Wuyi Forum, guided by Renmin University of China, the Cross-Strait Tea Industry Exchange Association , and the People's Government of Nanping City, and organized by the School of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development at Renmin University of China and the Nanping Cross-Strait Exchange Association of Tea. The event consists of two parts: an intangible cultural heritage tea culture exhibition and a tea culture exchange academic salon.

The spring breeze caresses the railing, and the fragrance of tea fills the air as the intangible cultural heritage tea culture exchange exhibition officially opens in front of the Humanities Building at Renmin University of China. The tea exhibition area, themed "Wuyi Mountains and Waters," is divided into two sections: "Tea Space" and "New-style Tea Beverages." Six major types of tea—Wuyi Rock Tea, Wuyi Black Tea, Jianyang White Tea, Zhenghe White Tea, Jianou Beiyuan Tribute Tea, and Songxi Green Tea—are showcased with their unique charm. On-sitetea masters use traditional techniques to brew the teas, while teachers and students savor the tea and engage in discussions, experiencing the unique elegance of "tea for the youth." The intangible cultural heritage section, themed "Craftsmanship at Your Fingertips," features a close dialogue between intangible cultural heritage skills and teachers and students, transforming these traditions from mere books into tangible, perceptible, and experiential cultural symbols.

Subsequently, the "Wuyi Tea China Tour" intangible cultural heritage tea fragrance event was held at the Pioneer Auditorium in Room 101 of the Student Activity Center. Attendees included Lin Zhongle, President of Cross-Strait Exchange Association of Tea; Xu Li, former Secretary-General and Executive Vice Chairman of the China Artists Association; Chen Aiping, Vice President of Cross-Strait Exchange Association of Tea; Zhang Peidong, President of the Nanping Cross-Strait Exchange Association of Tea; Lan Linhe, Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of the Nanping Municipal People's Congress; Wei Dunsheng, Vice Mayor of the Nanping Municipal Government; Wang Yi, Deputy Secretary and Vice President of Renmin University of China; Kong Xiangzhi, Director of the Chinese Tea Culture Research Center and Wu Yuzhang Distinguished Professor; Zeng Bingjian, Director of the Domestic Cooperation Office and Party Secretary of the School of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development; Zhao Xiao, Minister of Alumni and Resource Expansion; Bai Lianyong, General Manager of the Cultural Science Park; as well as leaders from relevant municipal departments in Nanping, Jianyang District, Wuyishan City, Jianou City, Pucheng County, Songxi County, and Zhenghe County, heads of relevant school functional departments, members of the leadership team of the School of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development, and faculty and student representatives.

Mr.Lin Zhongle, President of Cross-Strait Exchange Association of Tea, delivered a speech. He stated that this intangible cultural heritage tea culture exchange event not only provides a platform for teachers and students at Renmin University of China to engage in tea culture exchanges but also serves as an excellent opportunity to implement President Xi Jinping's important instructions on "the integrated development of tea culture, tea industry, and tea technology (“Three Teas” coordination)," promoting the development of tea culture, tea industry, and tea technology. He looks forward to valuable suggestions from all experts, scholars, teachers, and students at the conference for the development of Wuyi tea, contributing to the transformation and upgrading of the tea industry, encouraging more young people to explore and fall in love with tea, and infusing new vitality into the tea industry.

Vice Secretary and Vice President of Renmin University of China, Wang Yi, delivered a speech. She stated that this event is a vivid interpretation of the joint efforts by Renmin University of China, Fujian Province, and Nanping City to nurture new talents for the era. It is a concrete action to promote cultural inheritance and innovation, and a beautiful picture depicting the collaborative development between the university and the local area. She emphasized that under the new era and new journey, it is essential to uphold tradition while innovating. The campus should serve as a base to build new heights for the inheritance of traditional culture; young people should act as bridges to unleash new momentum for cultural innovation and inheritance; and culture should be at the core to construct new paradigms for value dissemination.

The Standing Committee of the People's Congress of Nanping City, member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Director Lan Lin expressed his highest respect to Renmin University of China for its unwavering efforts in preserving and promoting fine traditional Chinese culture. Today's event is not only a heartfelt dialogue between the landscapes of Wuyi Mountain and Renmin University of China but also a perfect integration of Nanping's tea culture and the humanistic quality education in universities. He pointed out that Wuyi Mountain is endowed with natural beauty and has a long history of tea cultivation. He sincerely invites everyone to visit Nanping for an exchange, to appreciate the scenery of Wuyi, to experience the flow of nature, and to enjoy a life in harmony with nature.

Next, the event moved on to the tea tasting and thematic discussion session. Professor Kong Xiangzhi, former Party Secretary of the School of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development and Director of the Chinese Tea Culture Research Center, shared "Wuyi Mountain Tea Affairs." He pointed out that tea culture is an important component of agrarian civilization and cited historical references to introduce the origin of tea, its early spread abroad, and the development of tea culture in traditional Chinese history.

Vice General Manager of Nanping Industrial Group, Su Yongchun, gave a detailed introduction to the development path of the Wuyi Mountain Water brand. Liu Guoying, the first inheritor of Wuyi Rock Tea (Da Hong Pao) production techniques, shared the quality characteristics of Wuyi tea, as well as the production process and brewing methods. Associate Professor Wang Yumeng from the the School of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development shared a small story about how he and Wuyi tea have written an epic of civilization through a single leaf.

Professor Ke Shuifa from the School of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development, Professor Li Ping from the School of Philosophy, President Wang Lingling from the Oriental Beauty Tea Ceremony Research Institute, representatives of six selected tea enterprises in Nanping and other participants held an in-depth discussion on the inheritance and innovation of Wuyi tea culture, and the atmosphere was warm.

The second Wuyi Forum, themed "Civilizational Exchange and Modernization Development: The Global Significance of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics," was successfully held in Wuyishan City, Nanping on March 22. Attending and delivering speeches were Zhang Donggang, Party Secretary of Renmin University of China; Jiang Erxiong, Vice Governor of Fujian Provincial People's Government; and Yuan Chaohong, Party Secretary of Nanping. The forum was chaired by Lin Shangli, President of Renmin University of China. It aimed to activate traditional wisdom through inter-civilizational dialogue and respond to contemporary challenges with theoretical innovation, contributing Chinese wisdom to the construction of a new form of human civilization.

The tea fragrance lingers, with a lingering aftertaste. As a sub-event of the Wuyi Forum, this "Wuyi Tea China Tour" intangible cultural heritage tea exchange activity concluded successfully amidst the tea aroma. From Wuyi Mountain to Renmin University campus, from the misty tea fragrance to the clear sounds of reading, Renmin University of China and Fujian Province, as well as Nanping City, will seize this opportunity to activate industrial momentum in the "three teas coordination," nurture pillars of talent in the "five educations promotion," and uphold the roots and soul of Chinese culture in the "two combinations." This will inject wisdom into building a cultural form of Chinese modernization and a new model of human civilization.
