Biography:

Gao Yuan is an Associate Professor at the School of Agricultural and Rural Development, Renmin University of China. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Applied Physics from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2006 and a Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics in 2010. From 2010 to 2012, he conducted postdoctoral research at the School of Agricultural and Rural Development, Renmin University of China, under the supervision of Professor Philip C. C. Huang. He also serves as a Research Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Historical and Social Research, a Research Fellow at the Center for Rural Governance, an Editorial Board Member of the journal Modern China, a Field Editor of the international journal Rural China, and Associate Editor of the "History of Agricultural Economic Thought" section in the Encyclopedia of China (Agricultural and Forestry Economics and Management volume). His main research areas include the political economy of rural development, the socio-economic history of rural areas, and the scientific philosophical foundations of economics. He has published over 30 papers in various domestic and international journals such as the Journal of Renmin University of China, Open Times, Issues in Agricultural Economy, China Environmental Science, Economic Theory and Business Management, Agricultural Economics, Food Policy, Modern China, and China & World Economy. He was named Scholar of the Year at the 2023 China Youth Agricultural Economists Forum.

He teaches courses such as "Advanced Microeconomics," "Mathematical Economics," "Qualitative Research Methods," "Social Survey Methods," and "Reading History and Classics." He received the first prize in the Beijing Higher Education Teaching Achievement Award in 2021 and the Special Prize in the Renmin University of China Teaching Achievement Award. He has supervised undergraduate students in winning university-level, municipal-level, and national-level projects, and graduate students in winning awards in various national development economics paper competitions and forums.

His recent research focuses on the political economy analysis of rural revitalization and agricultural product supply security, the construction and governance of digital villages, the application of big data in governance, and the design and application of digital rural property rights mechanisms. He has led and participated in several national and provincial-level projects in rural development, digital villages, and digital governance. He also engages in research and consulting for national departments, corporate research institutes, and think tanks. In addition to the general field of agricultural and forestry economic management, he welcomes students with backgrounds in economics, mathematics, computer science, and physics who are interested in academic research to apply for graduate studies.
