Biography:
Wang Xiqin, a female member of the China Democratic League, received her Ph.D. in 2000 and completed her postdoctoral research in 2002. She began working at Renmin University of China in 2002, initially appointed as an associate professor. In January 2012, she was promoted to doctoral supervisor ahead of schedule, and in 2013, she became a professor at the School of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development.
Her main research interests include resource management, environmental economics, and the teaching and research of these fields. Wang has led and completed over 30 projects, including those funded by the National Natural Science Foundation, the National Major Science and Technology Program on Water, and key scientific projects of the Ministry of Education. She has been an expert on projects such as the Sino-Australian collaboration on "China's Water Rights System Construction" and the Global Environment Facility's "Integrated Management of Water Resources and Water Environment in the Haihe River Basin."
Wang has published over 90 papers internationally and domestically, authored six monographs, and co-authored six additional works. She has received the First Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress from the Ministry of Education and support from the Beijing Excellent Talent Training Program.
Many of her research outcomes have been adopted and applied by relevant departments. She completed a soft science project for the Ministry of Agriculture titled "Strategic Research on Modern Agricultural Water Resource Utilization," with findings published in "Rural Economy Manuscripts" (2012) and used as internal references by the Ministry of Agriculture. This research was also included in the Ministry of Agriculture's advisory report "Modern Agriculture and Food Security" submitted to the National People's Congress.
Wang was the principal author of the "China Water Rights System Construction Report" (in both Chinese and English), which influenced new breakthroughs in water resource management by the Ministry of Water Resources and contributed to the establishment of China's strictest water resource management system. Her contributions to a sub-project of a national major science and technology program were integrated into the "Changzhou Ecological Civilization Planning." Additionally, her research on the "11th Five-Year Plan" project and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) project on the protection of important ecological functional areas in the upper Yangtze River provided an early warning model for environmental pressure on economic and social systems, offering a basis for optimizing environmental protection and economic growth in China. Wang has also contributed to the research and planning of several ecological cities, demonstration zones, and model cities, directly applying her findings to economic and social development plans and significantly advancing the construction of ecological civilization in China.
