Biography:
Tang Zhong, born in 1964 in Weng'an County, Guizhou Province, holds a Ph.D. in Economics and is a second-level professor and Distinguished Professor at Renmin University of China. In 1998, he was selected for Beijing's "Hundred Talents Program" for mid-to-late 20th century (new century) social science theory talents. He was named an Outstanding Teacher of Beijing in 2022 and is the lead instructor for the first batch of national-level top-quality undergraduate courses, "Agricultural Economics," as well as the lead for the first batch of virtual teaching and research offices by the Ministry of Education for the "Agricultural Economics Course Group."
Tang Zhong graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Economics from Southwest Agricultural University in 1985 and completed his Master's degree in Agricultural Economics at Renmin University of China in 1988, after which he stayed on to teach. He earned his Ph.D. in Economics from the Department of Agricultural Economics at Renmin University of China in January 1995. He furthered his studies at Nyenrode University in the Netherlands from 1995 to 1996 and was a Fulbright Research Scholar at the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) from 2003 to 2004. Currently, he serves as the Director of the Land Economics Research Institute at Renmin University of China and as the Chair of the Teaching Steering Committee for Agricultural Economics and Management of the Ministry of Education (2003-present). He is also a member of the Expert Advisory Committee on Rural Revitalization of the Central Agricultural Office and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Vice President of the Chinese Association of Agricultural Economics (2019-present), and Vice President of the Chinese Cooperative Economics Society (2022-present).
He has previously held several notable positions, including Head of the Department of Agricultural Economics at Renmin University of China (1996-2003), Director of the International Exchange Office at Renmin University of China (2005-2013), Dean of the School of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development (2013-2021), Party Secretary of the School of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development (2019-2020), Vice President of the China Society of Foreign Agricultural Economics (2012-2020), President of the Beijing Agricultural Economics Society (2007-2017), founding director and Vice President (2008-2009) of the Asia-Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE) (2006-2013), and consultant for the 8th Expert Advisory Group of the Beijing Municipal Government (2000-2013).
