On October 22, 2023, the Sixth Frontier Forum on Agricultural Economics Theory, hosted by the Organizing Committee of the China Frontier Forum on Agricultural Economics Theory and organized by the School of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development at Renmin University of China, was held at Renmin University of China. The opening ceremony was attended and addressed by Feng Shizheng, Standing Committee Member of the Party Committee and Vice President of Renmin University of China, and Xie Qian, Deputy Director of the Editorial Department of the Economic Research Journal. Other notable attendees included Yu Miao, President of Liaoning University, Ministry of Education Distinguished Professor, and recipient of the National Outstanding Young Scientists Fund; Xu Jintao, Boya Distinguished Professor at Peking University; Luo Biliang, Dean of the National Agricultural Institution and Development Research Institute at South China Agricultural University, Senior Humanities Professor, and Ministry of Education Distinguished Professor; and Cheng Guoqiang, Professor at the School of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development at Renmin University of China and recipient of the National Outstanding Young Scientists Fund.
The opening ceremony of the conference was chaired by Qiu Huanguang, Dean of the School of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development at Renmin University of China and Ministry of Education “Changjiang Scholars” Distinguished Professor. On behalf of the school, Qiu Huanguang welcomed and expressed sincere thanks to the guests. He pointed out that the Frontier Forum on Agricultural Economics Theory serves as a high-level academic exchange platform for China’s "three rural" issues. This forum, themed “Agriculture and Rural Areas at the New Development Stage: Historic Achievements and Transformations,” provided a platform for in-depth discussions on the cutting edge of agricultural economics theory, sharing research findings, and constructing an independent Chinese knowledge system in the "three rural" field to support the rural revitalization strategy.
In the afternoon of October 22, six parallel forums were simultaneously held at Renmin University of China, focusing on food security, consolidating and expanding poverty alleviation achievements, green and low-carbon sustainable agricultural development, frontier theories and practices in rural revitalization, the organic integration of smallholder farmers and modern agricultural development, and agricultural technological progress and high-quality development. The forums were chaired by Deputy Editors Wang Lina and Chen Xiaoliang from the Editorial Department of the Economic Research Journal, Associate Professor Xu Shang, Assistant Professors Kong Xiangwen, Da Yabin, and Ye Ziwei from Renmin University of China.
Following the parallel forums, the closing ceremony of the Sixth Frontier Forum on Agricultural Economics Theory was held, chaired by Mao Xuefeng, Vice Dean of the School of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development at Renmin University of China. He introduced the review process for the excellent papers of this conference and announced the list of awardees. Luo Biliang, Dean of the National Agricultural Institution and Development Research Institute at South China Agricultural University, delivered the closing remarks. On behalf of the Organizing Committee of the China Frontier Forum on Agricultural Economics Theory, Luo Biliang expressed gratitude to the School of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development at Renmin University of China for their efforts in preparing the conference.
The forum received widespread attention from the agricultural economics community in China, with a total of 221 submissions and 30 papers selected for offline presentation, involving 96 authors from 20 universities and research institutes nationwide. It was another grand academic event for China’s agricultural economics community. Zhu Zhanguo, Professor at the College of Economics and Management and Deputy Director of the Institute of Scientific Research at Nanjing Agricultural University, representing the host of the next forum, delivered a speech, welcoming the attendees to gather in Nanjing next year to continue discussing the forefront issues of agricultural economics theory.
