On the afternoon of May 31st, Professor Zhang Xiaobo, Chair Professor at Peking University's Guanghua School of Management and Director of the Center for Enterprise Big Data Research, delivered a lecture at the School of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development, Renmin University of China, in Room 930. This lecture was part of the series commemorating the 70th anniversary of the school's establishment and the 20th anniversary of the institute. The session was hosted by Professor Qiu Huanguang, Dean of the School of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development.
Professor Zhang Xiaobo presented an analysis of the historical evolution trends and clustering characteristics of domestic and international agricultural industry clusters. These included the vegetable industry cluster in Shouguang, Shandong Province, the potato industry cluster in Anding District, Dingxi City, Gansu Province, the medicinal and spice industry cluster in Egypt, and the onion industry cluster in Papua New Guinea. Drawing from his field research, he summarized the fundamental development patterns of agricultural industry clusters and proposed a theoretical framework for the analysis of agricultural industrial clustering. He emphasized that the formation of agricultural industry clusters results from the joint efforts of the general public and agricultural entrepreneurs, while local governments play a crucial role in the clustering of agricultural industries through supporting policies such as the introduction of new technologies and infrastructure development. Finally, Professor Zhang Xiaobo engaged with faculty and students in discussing the future development trends of agricultural industry clusters.
